Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 27 runs during the 55th match of the TATA IPL 2023. The match was dominated by the bowling sides of both teams and batters couldn’t display much of their skills today.
CSK had a slow start and lost early wickets, but Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni smashed some big shots to take the score to 167. In response, DC struggled from the first ball and the wickets kept falling. The team could only manage 140 runs and lost the game by 27 runs.
CSK innings:
CSK started slow with Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad playing cautiously taking their time. Axar Patel bowled beautifully during the fifth over and Devon Conway was gone. Soon, Axar Patel again struck and the other opener Ruturaj Gaikwad followed his partner to the pavilion.
Moeen Ali came with a mindset of stabilizing the innings and tried a partnership with Ajinkya Rahane, but Kuldeep Yadav didn’t like the idea and dismissed Ali for 7. After 10 overs the CSK innings was at 66/3, their lowest at this stage in the season.
Shivam Dube played some explosive shots and eased off some pressure with back-to-back boundaries, but Mitchell Marsh enticed the young batter, and skipper David Warner grabbed his catch. Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja played some safe shots and slowly picked up the speed of the innings.
Khaleel Ahmad took out Ambati Rayudu, but no CSK fan was sad as this meant the legend MS Dhoni will walk on crease now. MS Dhoni played a small innings of 9 balls but smashed 20 runs with the help of two sixes and one four.
At the end of the first innings, CSK was at 167/8.
DC innings:Â
Chasing 167, DC had a shaky start with Deepak Chehar dismissing skipper David Warner on the second ball of the innings. Phil Salt played some big shots during the second and third over until Deepk Chehar also sent him back to the pavilion, DC was two down for just 20 runs.
Soon, a running mix-up ended in Mitchell March getting dismissed for a silly runout, the DC was in real trouble now.
Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw played cautiously in partnership with occasional boundaries and somehow the scoreboard started to move. But CSK bowlers were bowling with a clear objective to take away wickets, and soon Pandey’s patience gave up and ‘impact player’ Matheesha Pathirana took out the player. After 13 overs DC was at 84/4.
One brings two is a common phrase used in cricket and Ravindra Jadeja proved that by dismissing Rossouw soon after Pandey. Axar Patel came and attempted some boundaries, but the exercise was looking futile as the match was slipping away from DC’s hand. At the end of the second innings DC’s score was 140/8.
