Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) rebel Ajit Pawar’s faction’s leader Praful Patel made a comment on opposition unity on 5 July, which did not go well with Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.
Moitra referred to rebel Ajit Pawar’s faction as ‘pathetic traitors’ and attacked Praful Patel saying, “It will be Indian democracy vs BJP in 2024. Let’s see who has the last laugh then.”
Commenting on Patel’s ‘I felt like laughing when I saw the scene there’, Moitra took to Twitter and wrote, “You felt like laughing, did you? Well, we feel like laughing at you pathetic traitors who betray cause after ED confiscates properties & jalaoed a beedi under you.”
Earlier in the day, addressing a meeting of NCP convened by Ajit Pawar in Mumbai, Patel had said, “I went to the joint opposition meeting in Patna with Sharad Pawar, and I felt like laughing when I saw the scene there.”

Adding more, he had said, “. “There were 17 opposition parties there, and seven of them have only one MP in Lok Sabha. There was one party that has zero MPs. They claim they will bring change,” he said. Patel said the country wants to know why he has sided with Ajit Pawar. “I will respond to this query at an appropriate time,” he added.
Sharing his views why he chose to go with BJP, he said, “When we could accept the ideology of Shiv Sena, then what is the objection in going with BJP?”
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar fraction approached the Election Commission, staking claim to Sharad Pawar’s NCP and party symbol on Wednesday.
On the other side, NCP Working President Supriya Sule hit out at BJP and said it openly that ‘BJP is the most corrupt party in the country’, adding original NCP is with Sharad Pawar and the original symbol is ‘us’.
“Disrespect us, but not our father (Sharad Pawar). This fight is against the BJP government. BJP is the most corrupt party in the country,” said NCP Working President Supriya Sule in Mumbai.
Earlier on Sunday, Ajit, along with 9 MLAs switched his side and give support to Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra.
